Friday Inspiration - Warming your Knees

OK, so this week's inspiration is also a day late. Sorry!

This week we're looking at blankets. Blankets are very important in our house. Both my husband and I get very cold in the evenings, so always wrap ourselves up. All the blankets in our house are crocheted and date from a time before I knew about natural fibres and patterns. They are similar to this, just big granny squares, really.

I quite like the idea of knitting blankets in a modular fashion. It seems more manageable, though I'm not sure about all that seaming afterwards. The patterns that really catch y eye are log cabin designs like this, or this. I love the idea of trying mitred squares and Rambling Rows Afghan, looks a great example.

I think my favourite of all though, is the Curlicue Coverlet. I like how different the pattern looks, depending on the choices made by the knitter.

What has been your favourite finished blanket/lapghan?

Do you have a favourite pattern that you'd like to make in the future?

Do you have a favourite type of yarn for making blankets/lapghans?
